It is not just a passing trend! Healthy eating includes adding nutrient powerhouses and foods that are filled with all the good stuff our bodies crave. One of the best ways to do that is by adding superfoods to our meals. Even though these foods have existed for decades, it has been until recently that nutritionists and other health professionals started promoting the consumption of superfoods on a daily basis. You might be surprised when it comes to labeling a food as a ”super” one because some regular fruits and common foods are considered superfoods. Blueberries are full of phytonutrients that help fight free radicals and that’s why it’s no surprise it has been ranked as number one in antioxidant activity by the US Department of Agriculture. Antioxidants are proven to help slow down the aging process and also prevent the formation of wrinkles and fine lines. Blueberries also contain Ascorbic Acid, Carotenoids, Fiber, Folate, Salicylic Acid and Vitamin E. These nutrients also make blueberries an anti-cancer agent.
