IPL Photofacial is a skin resurfacing treatment that rejuvenates and improves the appearance of sun-damaged skin, wrinkles, rosacea, and broken capillaries, among others. Intense pulsed light stimulates the production of collagen; and, as this new collagen forms, there is a decrease in fine lines/wrinkles and improvement in acne scarring. The skin becomes smoother and more even in tone.
IPL Photofacial Treatment procedure
The patient’s eyes are protected with special glasses or eye pads. The area to be treated is thoroughly cleansed and then a numbing cream is applied. The numbing cream is then removed and a cooling gel is applied. Once ready, pulses of light energy are delivered to the targeted area. Patients feel a mild sting, often described as a rubber band snap. Once the IPL/Photofacial treatment is completed, the gel is removed, and the area is then moisturized. A sunblock is also applied for protection. An IPL/Photofacial treatment takes 30 to 60 minutes to complete, depending on the size of the area being treated.
